FT: How did you come an to an appreciation of collage, assemblage and illustration as your preferred style?.
V: Everything started as an experimental phase while I studied graphic design at the faculty .
Strangely, my orientations were always far from illustration, but somehow I’ve developed my style by combining illustrations with images and typography.
But still I don’t have the impression that I’m engaged in illustrating.
I only use the Illustrator tools to edit an image.
Visual result and unique atmosphere, which dominate every collage, make this technique the most suitable for me.
Collage is my mother tongue in pictorial expressing.
FT: Typography plays a large part of making your compositions work, do you have a background in graphic design?
V: Typography was one of my subjects at the faculty. By joining it with collaging, I found freedom of typographical composing.I can say that typography is one of the three main ingredients for my works.I’m not talking about classical, but “drawn” typography. I see a letter as any other shape and I treat it in such a way. When I use the already exsisting font,I like to cover it with lines and colour everything by hand.Besides that visual contribution ,text plays an important part in collages because it completes the contents in some manner.
